Modern weddings are an infinite number of times more permissive than what they used to be. Back in the day, when your grandmother got married, every single step of the Big Day was closely followed by rules and etiquette that absolutely had to be followed. There was just no way around that.
These days, however, things are a lot more flexible when it comes to weddings – and wedding music makes no exception whatsoever.
What are some of the 4 wedding music rules you can forget about? Read on and find out more.
- Only classical music for the ceremony. That might be true in certain circumstances (e.g. if you are having your wedding ceremony in a church that doesn’t allow but for a couple of songs to be played during the big moment). Other than that, you should be free to choose whatever music represents you better.
- Only romantic, soothing music for the First Dance. Sure, that’s the most popular choice – but it doesn’t mean you should only concentrate on that. Some couples choose to dance on rock songs, and others even decide to mix it up (a smooth song and a more energizing one that gets everyone in the mood for partying).
- There must be a line dance. This is a more recent “wedding tradition” – but people have gotten so used to the idea of a line dance that they will be more than happy to skip it with the first occasion. Don’t add a line dance song to your playlist if you feel it doesn’t suit you or your wedding style – it’s actually fine to do that.
- Only play music you like. This is a debatable one. On the one hand, you should definitely not play any song you don’t like (regardless of what the reason may be). On the other hand, you should definitely try to go beyond your own musical tastes and provide your guests with a mixture of genres and musical decades they can actually dance on. We guarantee people will appreciate you thinking of them!
